Tingmosgang, the huge village below Tia, is also worth spending a day with walking possibilities around. In Tia you can find a nunnery and two monasteries (Tia and Katsa). The Trek starts just below the bridge on the right side of the Phacha Tokpo River at an altitude of 3.445 m. After leaving the last houses one comes across a big prayer-wheel and continues upwards towards Tia Dok, a former used „summer village“ with empty small huts and bare fields, not cultivated since more then 5 years. There are many pleasant camping-possibilties, the highest on 4.000 m on a patch of grass with small rivers.
Day 03 : Trek Tia Dok to Dakshang Lhartse, 7 hrs.: Follow the river always on the east side towards North. There is a path one has to follow, which goes steadily upwards. After reaching 4.600 m, one has to cross 2-3 times streams coming from the east, which shouldn't be a problem. When having difficulties with the altitude it is advisable to have an additional camp here as afterwards there are rare possibilities. At 5.000 m there are two beautiful lakes with camping possibilities in between.
Day 04 : Trek Dakshang Lhartse over Zamjunmo-la to Base Camp, 7 hrs.: Getting higher and higher to the North one comes across two more lakes at 5.100 m. The scenery is really spectacular with vast rock-areas including beautiful lakes, higher peaks and passes on three sides and some glaciers very close by. The last 100 m of alttude to the pass are quite steep over loose rocks and one needs Schwindelfreiheit und Trittsicherheit. Especially with groups and horses one has to take care of stone-falls and small landslides. Finally the pass is reached and offers great views to all sides. On the north-side is a glacier-field of around 1 km without crevasses to cross and go down. The terrain after that is first quite loose with rocks and exhausting to walk, but later it becomes better and a path more abvious. The first Camping-possibility is at 5.030 m, but one can continue a bit as there are more possibilities every half walking hour.
Day 05 : Trek Camp to Spangmarmo, 5-6 hrs.: Always following the Spangmarmo river, sometimes on the west-, sometimes on the east side, one gets slowly lower. The path is still clear and changes between grass, boulder-areas and rocky flats. The river-crossings can be done without wading through – at least in late August. While going down one gets glimpses into other valleys. There is a rare wildlife to spot, but quite some Yaks belonging to the people from the lower villages. So some Doksas are inhabitet by people collecting the dung as burning-material for the winter. Spangmarmo is such a Doksa. One can camp a little further away at 4.550 m.
Day 06 : Trek Spangmarmo to Yokma Lhargyab, 5 hrs.: Still going down on the west side of the river one can spot in the distance the village Gongma Lhargyab with approx. 20 houses. A primary school and a small gompa-room. One has to take care not to miss the way leading down to the bridge in the beginning of the village. Afterwards there is a second bridge to cross another river coming down from the mountains. Just before the village of Yokma Lhargyab is a camping-possibility at 3.940 m
Day 07 : Trek Yokma Lhargyab to Parchatang, 3 hrs.: First one should take the possibility to discover a bit more of Yokma Lhargyab, one of the rare ladakhi places, where buddhist families keep chicken and the middle school consist of 11 children. The quality is not so bad for a gouvernment-school as they have really good and dedicated teachers, singing with them every morning „We shall overcome“! They are happy to experience a little their english with foreigners. The last bit of this trek leads along a gorge towards the muslim village of Parchatang. Parchatang is 3.500 m of altitude and a small vivid village with lots of children. Crossing the there very deep and steep gorge by a bridge one reaches a non-tarred road of 7 km going down to meet the Nubra-Valley ar 3.100 m
Day 08 : Drive back the ca. 150 km via Khardong-la to Leh or use the chance to discover more of the Nubra Valley, especially going to the most western village of Turtuk, belonging to Pakiastan until 1971 and having a balti culture there. It is a village on only 2.880 m with two crops a year (second is buckwheat), a mosque from the 16th century and a little buddhist gompa maintained by buddhist employees living in that village. Houses and people look quite different from rest of Ladakh so it is a little like glimpsing into another country. Also with the military camps and the military airport in Thoise one can experience the special situation of Ladakh lying so close to the Pakistan-border. Afterwards for sure one could visit at least the beautiful villages of Hundar and Deskit in the Nubra-Valley.

Colorful wild flowers on the way are visually pleasant in the exhausting climb to the top, where the trail divides into two, one going to the left leading towards Tsokar lake and one on the right takes you to a stream, crossing which another pass to climb is there. It is little hard to trace the path for some distance from where the clear trail leads to the top of Mandalchan la (4996m). The trail goes further up and then steep down to a beautiful valley called Tisaling, which is the campsite for the day.
Day 05 Tisaling to Pangunagu (Tsokar 4398m) via ShibukLa (5016m) 5-6 hrs. : Today you have to cross Shibuk La near the camp site. The top of the pass has a beautiful sight of the Tsokar Lake. An easy descent to the lake takes you to the campsite behind a hill.
Day 06 Pangunagu to Nuruchan (4500m) 4-5 hrs.: It is an easy walk along side the lake in vast openness through a road. After some distance you catch the sight of the agricultural fields, where the campsite is located next to the stream.
Day 07 Nuruchan to Rachungkaru (4668m) via Dundunchanla (4712m) 3-5 hrs.: an easy ascent to the pass takes around 1 hour 30 minutes. The trail turns towards north-east just after the pass. The camp site is across the river at the base of the pass.
Day 08 Rachungkaru to Gyamalhoma (4895m) 6-7 hrs.: Start climbing Kyamayur La (5125m) which takes around 2 hrs. The last climb is the tiring one. After the pass the trail leads towards north-east and at the end of the valley trail starts ascending another small pass called Gyama La (5100m), from where you can have views of different mountain peaks. Walk down towards north-east and cross the small river and the Gyama lhoma is reached after another river, crossing which is also a base for Korzok pass.
Day 09 Gyamalhoma to Korzok (Tsomoriri Lake): Start an easy ascent to the Korzok pass along the stream. It takes around 2 hrs to reach the top from where you can have the wonderful view of the Lake, following which is the steep walk down to the Korzok village. You can also camp at Korzok Phu where nomad camps are located, around one hour before the lake if you have extra days.
Day 10 Tsomoriri to Leh (240 kms/6 hours approx.): After the breakfast walk around the Lake and drive to Leh via Mahey Bridge and Chumathang.
Day 11 Departure: Early morning on time transfer to Leh airport to catch flight for Delhi. Tour Ends
Day 1 : Drive to Saspotse, Trek Saspotse to Shepherds Place, 3-4 hrs.: Drive by car from Leh to Saspotse. The pleasant 65 km drive along the Indus takes around 2 hrs. Saspotse is the village behind Likir on the less driven road to Hemis Schukpachen. Start in the centre of the village on 3.795 m. There is a little gompa in the last but one house of the village on 3.860 m. Continue the path through the valley to the North along the west side of the river Saspol Tokpo. When there is a river junction on 4.345 m, take the path to the west, continue for an hour and leave it to climb the ridge to the North to reach a shepherds place at 4.500 m. Camp
Day 2 : Trek Shepherds Place to Lago-la Base Camp, 4 hrs.: Set off to the North a little up and down over moraines again along the river Saspol Tokpo. On 4.600 m you come across a dried up lake (called Zingog) which can sometimes be used as a water supply damm. 100 m of altitude higher is a small yellow lake called Tso Sermo. After an hour one comes across an abandoned shepherds place. Just before arriving in the Base Camp which is at a junction of three valleys, one has to cross a river. Camp at 5.000 m with a fine scenery.
Day 3 : Trek Lago-la Base Camp over Lago-la to Rakuruk Doksa, 9 hrs.: Getting higher and higher to the North one comes across the lake Tso Chiang Gongma on 5.180 m and finally reaches the pass Lago-la on 5.400 m after 2,5 – 3 hrs. after departure. From here one has a great view over the Zanskar range to the South and the Saltoro Range to the North. For the decend one first has to cross a little glacier/snowfield, depending on time of year and snowfall how long it is (beginning July 2011 1,5 km). In the end the snow turns into water and gurgles down the valley to turn into a river named Rhakura. On 5.100 m one comes across a huge valley of violet flowers. To get down quite a bit to lower altitude one has to leave several camping possibilities and arrives slowly slowly to an old shepherds place called Rakuruk Doksa at the junction of two valleys. On the last decades some landslides brought down huge boulders which covered the old track and were quite dangerous for horses. But there has been a lot of work down by making the track easier for the horses and also put up stone piles to navigate following trekking group for the best way through the boulders. Camp at 4.720 m after a last river-crossing (there have been 2-3 before, too).
Day 4 : Trek Rakuruk Doksa to Rakuruk, 4,5 hrs. : One follows down the Rakuruk river on the west side down along small pastures, gets glimpses of other valleys leading into the mountains and comes across a huge variety of vegetation. Finally one arrives in the small village of Rakuruk, containing of seven houses and being located at an elevation of 4.040 m. Lots of water sources make the village a very flowerful one besides the barley- and green-pea-fields and the vegetable gardens.
Day 5 : Trek Rakuruk to Skuru, 3,5 hrs.: The sides of the river narrow until it becomes a small gorge where one has to follow the small path high above the gurgeling water. One has to be free of fear of heights and must be sure-footed. The gorge opens into the Nubra Valley at the small village of Skuru with around 300 inhabitants at an altitude of 3.150 m. Here one can do camping or take a room at one of the family houses.
Day 6 : Skuru to Leh drive back . 150 km via Khardong-la to Leh . Overnight at hotel
Day 7 : Departure : Early morning on time departure transfer to Leh airport to catch flight for onward destination.

Walk along another stream towards southward and then east up to the Prikiting La (3700m). After the pass you reach down the river in the Shillakung valley. The trail to the right also leads to Zangskar via Snigutse La. Take the right trail with chorten and Mani wall. Cross the river and the campsite is reached passing through the houses near the second bridge and tented restaurant.
Day 04 Wanla to Hinju 5-6 hours: Leave Wanla for Hinju after the breakfast while enjoying nice views of mountains and narrow gorges. The Hinju village has prayer flags at the start of the village. Overnight stay is in Hotel.
Day 05 Hinju to Sumda Chenmo 5-6 hours: Proceed towards Sumda Chenmo via Konski La 4900 mtrs. From where you can have a view of back route from Pirkiti La. The Valley across the Kanski La has a few huts of shepherds from Hinju where they make butter and cheese. Overnight in Camp.
Day 06 Sumda Chenmo to Dundunchan La Base 5-6 hrs. : The trail leads to Dundunchan la Base along with Sumda chu . Arrive base of the pass after a good walk for 4-5 hrs. Overnight in Camp
Day 07 Dundunchan La base to Chilling to Leh 5-6 hrs.: Have a fantastic view from Dundunchan La (4700 mtrs) and trail Leads to Chilling village where the Zangskar River follows towards Nimo village. Arrive chilling and drive to Leh. Overnight in the Guest House.
Day 08 Departure: Early morning departure transfer to Leh airport to catch onward destination flight.Trek Ends
Day 01 Arrival Leh : Upon arrival Leh airport, pick-up and transfer to hotel. After tea/coffee rest in hotel to get acclimatization. Evening walking walking tour in Leh bazaar. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02 : Drive by car from Leh to Chumathang.: The pleasant drive along the Indus takes 3,5 – 4 hrs. Chumathang is famous for its Hot Springs. People come here for medical treatment – or washing their laundry. The village of Chumathang is located 2 km further west from the Hot Springs with a pleasant campground at a big farmhouse. You can either visit the monastery (characterization of monastery?) in the afternoon or in the morning. It is 20 min by walk from the camping
Day 03 : Trek Chumathang to Gangra, 5 hrs.: Set off in Chumathang, 4.050 m, walk through the village and follow up the valley north. The path is easy to find as many shepherds use this trail to go for the high pastures with their animals. You will find some of their places on their way. Also it is very likely to see some wildlife as marmots and bluesheep. As one treks up following the Chumathang river there is no scarcity of water and plenty of camping possibilities. Our choice Gangra is located at 4.630 m with a fine scenery.
Day 04 : Trek Gangra to Sumdo, 4 hrs.: Today is just a short walking-day, but you won't regret it as the camping is set in such a fine scenery, that one has enough time to explore it or just relax in the sun. The trail leads still along the Chumathang river from 4.630 m up to 5.140 m. Sumdo, the goal of the day, is a junction of three valleys. As oxygen is getting less, one has to walk very slowly. But time enough to spot some of the many marmots and maybe some Kyangs. Sumdo is also a favorite place for big herds of Yak.
Day 05 : Trek Sumdo over Choku-la to Phayalung, 8 hrs. : As this is quite a tough day as one has to cross the 5.560 m high pass Choku-la, it is advised to start early in the morning. We climb over a ridge and follow the high valley to the east of Sumdo, reach an even higher valley and find a small and unremarkable pass without prayerflags in the very east of this valley. This is the highest point of this trekking and one has a superb view along the surrounding mountains and valley. After that it goes slowly down, plateau after plateau, each being dominated by a beautiful lake. First it is Sengnapo-Tso on 5.460 m, then xxx on 5.310 m and followed by xxx on 5.300 m. We have to climb over a ridge again to finally reach a shepherds place at 5.200 m, which is fine for a camping.
Day 06 : Trek Phayalung to Yayatso, 5 hrs.: While walking further down, one passes several shepherds places, walks along a refreshing river crosses a desert-plateau with a big Lhato and reaches a small lake with a gorge on the left side. Passing this gorge one gets a fine view to the big blue Yayatso with its surrounding short meadows, grazing goats and yaks and the small village of Yaya, containing of seven houses, on the east side of the high valley. Situated on 4.700 m the Yayatso is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Changthang area. Camp next to one of the several small rivers leading to Yayatso and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere with men and animals living adjusted to natures conditions.
Day 07 : One could trek over another 4.800 m pass to Mahe, but as there is a road, it is nicer to set off by car. On the way to Mahe visit the famous nunnery with more than 100 nuns and in Mahe the monastery. In Mahe you have the choice to go on further into Changthang area either to newly opened area of Nyoma and Muth and/or Tsomoriri/Tsokar Lakes or directly back to Leh.
Day 08 : Departure: Early morning on time transfer to Leh airport to catch flight for onward destination .Trek end.
Day 01 Arrival Leh : Upon arrival Leh airport, pick-up and transfer to hotel. After tea/coffee rest in hotel to get acclimatization. Evening walking walking tour in Leh bazaar. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02 Drive Leh to Kargil 245 km: After early breakfast at hotel drive to kargil. Reach Kargil in evening. Upon arrival transfer to hotel overnight at hotel.
Day 03 Drive Kargil to Padum 240km. Overnight at hotel.
Day 04 : Drive to end of road, Trek Anmo to Cha, 2.5 hrs.: Drive by car from Padum to the end of the road (in 2012 it was until short before Anmo). An early start gives time for sightseeing of some of the gompas on the way like Bardan and Mune. At the end of the road meet the horses and start on the left side of the river. The path leads high above the river through small villages/houses. Finish the first trekking day in the district main quarter of Cha, a bigger village on 3.900 m You can choose if you want to put up the tent or prefer one of the comfortable homestays to experience a little more the life of the villagers.
Day 05 Trek cha – Phuktal – Purne – Cha: (If you want, you can add a day here trekking to Phuktal with its famous Gompa and walk back to Purne, walking-time around 4 hrs. total, giving enough time to explore the monastery. The walking-time of the next day will be 1 hr less)
Day 06 : Trek Cha to Tangtse, 6,5 hrs.: Go down to the bridge, cross the river and climb up again. The path leads you high above the river through the villages of Yal, Testa und Kuru. It is nice and easy walking. Just before Tangtse there is again a small bridge to cross the river. Tangtse is a village on around 4.000 m with 4 x 3-4 houses close together and huge fields around. There is an empty gompa high above the village.
Day 07 : Trek Tangtse to Zinchen, 4 hrs.: Follow the path on the same side of the river until you reach after 1-1,5 hrs. Thabley, which consists of 2 houses. There you enter a gorge leading up into the mountains. Stay mostly on the left side, but sometimes you have to cross (when not too much water easy done by jumping). Then leave the gorge on a high path leading over ridges and back to the river at Zinchen at 4.600 m. You can either pitch your tent there or go a little higher, but there are only small spots for 2-3 tents.
Day 08 : Trek Zinchen via Phitse-la to Churmik Marpo, 8-9 hrs.: Get up very early as the way towards and over the pass is quite long. Just keep on following the river up to a nice place for a rest on 5.175 m at the bottom of the pass. The climb is a little steep until the top of the 5.582 m high Phirtse-la. There you have a spectacular view around. Find the proper path leading slowly downwards until you reach a broader valley called Churmik Marpo at 4.750 m. Camp there.
Day 09 : Trek Churmik Marpo to Umlung, 5,5 hrs.: Follow the river down on the left side. You see many marmot-holes, but rarely you spot these shy animals. Before the rivers runs into a small gorge, you have to cross it either on horseback or through the water. Continue on that side until the river flows into the bigger Lingti-River at Kham Kherab. There you have to cross again. Kham Kherab is at 4.470 m and from there it is more or less flat walking with only short ascents and descents. There are plenty camping-possibilities along the Lingti-River. We suggest to go until Umlung at 4.440 m.
Day 10 : Trek Umlung to Sarchu, 4 hrs.: You continue walking on the right side of the Lingti-River (in the Olizane-map there is a path on the other side, too, which is wrong). At a junction you could decide to have a long way to Killang Serai, but could continue for sure just to Sarchu. There you meet the Tsarap River, which has to be crossed and after that you reach Sarchu at 4.300 m with a lot of Dhabas, who offer food and night-shelter. Or you just continue by road to Keylong. Overnight at hotel

As we continue trekking further, the gorge gets narrower and rugged. On the way one might see snow leopard signs along the valley bottom of the side valleys if you are trekking during winter or early spring/fall. As you approach Rumbak fields the valley suddenly opens up with snowcapped mountains in the background. From the fields the path turns left eastwards for the Rumbak village, where Home stay is available.

Day 02 : Drive Leh to Tia, Trek Tia to Tia Dok, 3 hrs.: Drive by car from Leh to Tia. One can cut the drive also into more then one day as there are many interessting monasteries as Spituk, Phiyang, Basgo, Likir, Alchi and Rizong on the way.

PLAN YOUR TRIP :
DAY TO DAY ITINERARY :
Day 01 Arrival Leh : Upon arrival Leh airport, pick-up and transfer to hotel. After tea/coffee rest in hotel to get acclimatization. Evening walking walking tour in Leh bazaar. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02 Leh to Lamayuru 08 hrs: Drive to Lamayuru, en route visit Liker and Alchi Monasteries. Overnight stay is in camp or Guest House.
Day 03 Lamayuru to Wanla (3250m) 2-3 hrs: Walk down along the stream towards east and then after 20 minutes cross the stream near a Chorten.
Day 11 : Drive Keylong to Manali: After breakfast at hotel drive to Manali transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 12 : Departure: After breakfast on time departure transfer to Bhunter airport to catch flight for Delhi.
