Day 1. Arrive and stay in Paro (2200 m)
Upon arrival transfer to hotel. Later, visit landmark attractions – Rinpung Dzong, National museum. After, set the tone for birding with visit to the agricultural channel and light vegetation in nearby villages to interact with locales, learn about birds and its significance in social and religious context, village life and lookout for birds. Most likely birds to be seen are Ibis bills, fire capped Tits, Spotted Laughing Thrush, Brown Dipper etc. Overnight in Hotels.
Day 2. Paro to Punakha: (1330 m/3 hours drive)
Drive east to subtropical valley of Punakha across Docula Pass (3150 m). Stop briefly to relish the landscapes and view of mountains peaks, we will examine the surrounding thoroughly on return. After, descend but we will stop below the pass and scan the botanical garden -an ideal rendezvous point for birds among others such as Besra, Eurasian Jay. Punakha harbour long Mo Chhu river channel that encloses broad leaves vegetation, agricultural lands and quiet neighbourhood – one of prominent birding arena in western Bhutan. Following the old trail, we’ll start examining the Mo chhu riverbank meticulously past beautiful Punakha Dzong, which we will visit later, scanning for species of ducks, herons and waterfowls. Critically endangered White Bellied Heron are seen frequently. Other birds such as Magpie Robin, Green Magpie, Osprey, River Lapwing, Ruddy Shelduck, Eurasian Wigeon. Overnight in hotel/ traditional Farm house/ Deluxe camping on river bank.
Day 3. In Punakha (Drive into Tashithang and beyond for birding)
Drive north of Punakha valley into the warm broadleaves forest reserve of Tashitang – bedrock of birding in western Bhutan. The favourable warm climates and rich reserve of forests provide ideal conditions for varied species of avifauna to thrive. In winter myriad migrants from alpine region can be seen in these forest. We’ll scan the area minutely looking for species of passerine, and a whole lot of species waits to be discovered such as Collared Owlet, Barred Cuckoo-dove, White-browed Shrike-babbler, Large Niltava,We’ll also search for a variety of skulkers, including Spotted Elachura and Pygmy Wren-babbler. Overnight in hotel/Traditional Farm House/ Deluxe camping in river bank.
Note:Early morning hour is the prime time for birding.
Day 4. Punakha to Gangtey, Phobjikha (3000 m/ drive – 3+ hrs) – start early and birding
Drive to Gangtey, however along the way we‘ll make series of stops where we’ll venture into agricultural fringe and river channel. Sighting of Pallas’s eagle are frequently reported. Others birds are Flycatcher, wedge Tailed green Pigeon are common. We will also stop at large swathe of productive forest reserve prior to Phobjika, upon closer exploration we can find myriad avifauna such scarlet Finch, Black Drongo, Chestnut bellied Nuthatch, Slaty backed Forktail, Gorgeted Flycatcher, White throated Laughing thrust, Eurasian Jay, Wedge Tailed Green Pigeon, Mountain Imperial Pigeon, Verditer Flycatcher, etc.Upon arrival in Phobjika, if it falls between Oct to March, we can see a large colony of endangered Black Neck Crane in vast meadows. Overnight in Hotel.
Day 5. Phobjikha – Trongsa (2180 m/ 3 hours approx )
Leaving Trongsa, we’ll stop at Pela La pass. We will spend the whole morning hours looking for alpine avian delights like Satyr Tagopan, Blood Pheasant and the beautiful Himalayan Monal. Three miles below the pass, the stand of bamboo up shoots attracts many birds. The specialties of the area are Great and Brown Parrot bills and Golden-breasted Fulvetta, surely one of the world’s most attractive passerines. Along the way stop and visit Chendebji Stupa – eighteen century Swambhunath Stupa style. Overnight hotel in Trongsa.
Day 6. Trongsa to Tingtibi (580 m/ 4hours)– Camp
Shemgang / Tingbitti is considered as best sub tropical birding region in Bhutan. Morning birding to Yeshi Zam, the focus will be mainly to spot Yellow- Rumped honey guide. This large forested area is also home to endangered Golden Langur. Although its likely to see beautiful nuthatch in lower Shemgang road, but the most people will hardly get enough of it. So we will search for more in campsite vicinity, which is amidst the beautiful forest, though at slightly lower altitude that we visited. Along with it, there are many birds you will encountered are yellow-throated martin, giant squirrel Rufous-necked hornbill, Blue throated bee-eater, Maroon Oriole, Racket tailed Drongo, Red headed Trogon, sultan tit, Grey Nightjar, Hill Prinia, Asian Emerald Cuckoo, Great hornbill, Partridge, Violet Cuckoo, Pin-tailed Green Pigeon, , and Cutia. Rufous-faced Warbler is also quite common, and we stand a chance of encountering the rare White-bellied Heron and possibly Collared Treepie etc. Overnight at Camp/Deluxe camp..
Day 7. Tingtibi – Gonphu – Gelephu (305 m/4 hrs)
We will do early morning birding in Tingtibi area. After, drive for approx. 2 hours to Gonphu. Birding extensively in Gongphu area. The birds likely to be seen are Green Magpie, Laughing Thrushes,Spider hunter, Samatar Babblers, Wren Babbler. Later we descend into lowland Gelphu, however, enroute we stop at lush forest of Tama la. There is report of sighting of rare blue Fronted Robin. In Gelephu, you will find completely different set of birds, typical of the plains of India such as Jungle fowl, White Throated Kingfisher,Indian Peafowl; Green Imperial-Pigeon; Brown Boo books, Asian Barred-Owlets, Chestnut-headed Bee-eaters; colorful Indian Rollers, both Wreathed and Oriental Pied hornbills; a Greater Flame back Greater Yellow nape, Ashy Wood swallows, comical Greater Racket-tailed Drongo. Overnight in Camp/ Deluxe camping nearby hot spring – Allegedly, believed to have therapeutic benefits.
Day 8. Gelephu, Tshirang, Wangdue-Dochula pass.(3150 m/6 hours)
Today is the longest drive, it takes around 6 hours, however we will make regular stops along the ways. As there are a few lush green forests with prime birding spots. Once in Dochula pass, explore the beautiful surrounding and spectacular view of far off eastern Himalayan mountain peaks on a clear day, so is the spectacular sunset from the pass (3150 m). Overnight in Hotel in Docula Pass.
Day 9. Dochula to Thimphu.
Early morning birding around the Docula pass. The forest of conifers, firs, spruce are an ideal habitat for the alpine avain such as resplendent Monals, near mythical Stayr Tropan and prize conquest will be spotting Ward Trogopan. Eec. Also we will watch glorious sun rise. After breakfast, we will drive for Thimphu (45 mins) and head past town to Cheri, Doderma, north of Thimphu valley. Red billed Coughed is frequently seen along the way. Birding in temperate forest of conifers, spruce and you may see Ibis bill, Common sandpiper, Crested-pie kingfisher, Redrumped swallow, Long-tailed minivet, Grey wagtail, Yellow-billed blue Magpie, Spotted nutcracker, White-bellied yuhina, Red-billed chough, Black-browed tit, Upland pipit Later drive back to town and visit prominent attraction like Tashichho Dzong, Gaint Buddha statues, Takin reserve, Painting School, Centennial weekend market, Archery in Changlimithang ground. etc.
Overnight in hotel.
Day 10. Thimphu-Paro (hike to Taktsang)
Drive to Paro and Transfer to trail head of Taksang monastery (1hr.30 mins). If early we can see birds commonly found in Paro like Ibis bills, laughing thrushes, brwon dipper etc.Chances to sight birds plummet significantly as the days set in as the crowd triggers flight reaction of birds.For the hike portion it takes around more than 2 hours. Return to town, visit Rinpung Dzong and National Museum. Stroll in town Farewell Dinner.

Day 11. Depart
Transfer to Airport on time for your outward journey.
Day 1: Arrive in Paro.
Arrive by flight into Paro. Upon arrival you are met by Bhutanese Guide and driver and transferred to the hotel. Depending on your arrival time, we should be able to cover some sightseeing such as the National Museum, Rinphung Dzong and have time to stroll in the charming small town of Paro. Overnight hotel in Paro.
Day 2 & 3: Punakha & Wangdue Valley.
Three-four hours journey to Wangdue/Punakha valley via 10,000ft Dochula pass. From the pass you can see panorama view of snow capped peaks of eastern Himalayan range (weather permitting). We descend through changing vegetations and landscape into semi-tropical Punakha valley. During our stay visit the impressive Punakha Dzong fortress located at the confluence of Pho and Mo Chu Rivers. We’ll take an easy walk in the valley, visit some of its monasteries, villages, take short drives and enjoy this idyllic countryside dotted with farm houses and terraced hillsides. Overnight hotel in Punakha.
Day 4 & 5: Jakar (Bumthang).
We have a long drive (7hrs) traversing Pele la pass into Mangde/Trongsa region and then across Youtongla pass to arrive in Bumthang district. We will make occasional stops along the way to ease the long journey. We have a full day to explore by easy walks and short drives. Among others visit Kurjey Temple complex, the 7th century Jampay Lhakhang and Tamshing Lhakhang monastery. We also have visit Jakar Dzong, local village, and visit Kharchu Dratsang monastery, during their active evening debate or communion prayers. You can also sample some local buckwheat dishes during your stay in Bumthang. Overnight hotel in Jakar.
Day 6: Jakar – Trongsa.
Retrace short drive back to Trongsa. En-route, stop in Bumthang’s chumey valley, where we check-out Yathra weavers. Then crossing Youtongla pass, descend into Trongsa. Visit Trongsa’s dzong. Set above the dzong is the Ta Dzong, the watchtower, a lovely old building which has been recently renovated to houses an excellent museum with several floors of royal memorabilia and sacred artifacts. The views from the roof are well worth the climb. In the evening stroll around the town.

Day 7: Gangtey, Phobjikha Valley.
Our journey brings us back to Pele la pass, passing through several small towns and alpine settlements, with spectacular views. After short decent, our road makes a diversion off the main high-way to Gangtey. Famous as a main wintering ground for Black Necked Cranes, which arrive here late October and stay until early spring before heading back to their breeding grounds in Tibet and Siberia. Visit ancient Gangtey Gompa, one of the oldest Nyingma monastery, located atop the hill. Then walk along the nature trail, a footpath encircling the winter roosting grounds of the cranes. Overnight hotel in Gangtey. (Total 4-5hrs drive)
Day 8: Gangtey – Thimphu.
Backtracking our drive back through ever changing vegetations to Punakha and Wangdue valley. From Punakha, climb up to Dochula pass, for one more opportunity to take in a magnificent mountain vista. Enjoy the views over cuppa near the pass in cafeteria. This evening, we should have sometime available to visit great Tashicho Dzong and stroll along the main street of the capital. Overnight hotel in Thimphu. (Total 6+hrs drive).
Day 9: In Thimphu.
Thimphu is an attractive valley location and is relatively small for a capital city that has grown greatly in recent years. We have a full day to tour and visit the capital of Bhutan as per interests. Drive up to giant Buddha statue, visit Memorial Chorten, Takin Preserve, Zilukha nunnery, Traditional Art School, Hospital for traditional medicine, National Library, Textile Academy and Museum, Changlimithang ground where you may see Archery, Centennial farmers’ market, which is more vibrant over the weekend (Fri-Sun) or you can spend half day hiking to Cheri or Tango Monastery north of Thimphu. Day 10: Thimphu – Paro.
Today is another easy day. We will cover any remainder sightseeing of Thimphu in the first half of the morning and then drive to Paro, which takes only about an hour. Along the way, we will stop to visit a nunnery in Sitsina village and depending on your interest, we can also stop to walk across the river and visit Tamchoe Lhakhang temple. Upon arrival in Paro, visit Dzongdrakha, a group of temples and farmhouses located along the cave. Then in afternoon visit beautiful Kichu Lhakhang, and Dungtse temple, followed by visit to local village, including a visit to local farm house. Overnight hotel in Paro
Day 11: Paro (Hike to Takstang).
After breakfast, head north of the town (1/2 hr) to the trail head for hike uphill to the iconic Taktsang (tiger’s nest) monastery, perched some 600m/2,000ft up on a cliff overlooking the valley. It is said to be where the legendary Guru Padma Sambhava, flew from Tibet on the back of a tigeress to subdue the demons, who were opposing the spread of Buddhism in Bhutan. Descend the same way back, meet the vehicle and transfer to the hotel. After freshen up, you may wish to take one more visit in the town, before your farewell dinner.
Note: For those looking to take up more challenging hike, one can climb up further uphill to visit Zangdopelri temple and Ugyentsemo monastery.
Day 12: Departure.
Transfer to the airport in time for your departure flight.
Day 1: Arrive in Paro
Arrive by flight into Paro.Upon arrival at the airport, clear immigration & Customs. Meet your Bhutanese Guide and driver outside the terminal, and after introduction, transfer to your hotel.
This afternoon or evening as per your arrival time, transfer short distance to Rinphung Dzong, built in early 17th century. Like most dzongs, Rinphung Dzong houses both the monastic body and district government offices, including the local courts. Rinpung Dzong (meaning fortress on a heap of Jewels) is one of the finest example of Bhutanese architecture you’ll see. The massive buttressed walls tower over the town and are visible throughout the valley. Scenes from Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1995 film Little Buddha were filmed here. After visiting the Dzong, walk downhill, across a traditional wooden covered bridge that spans the Paro Chhu River, past Ugyen Pelri Palace and arrive in town area. Stroll around the charming small town of Paro, lined with colorfully painted wooden shop fronts and restaurants. As per available and interests, our guide will plan other visits accordingly. Day 2: Paro Valley
In the morning, we visit Dumtse Lhakhang temple built in 1433 by the iron bridge builder Thangtong Gyalpo. It is shaped like a chorten (stupa) with three floors and the murals inside are said to be some of the finest in Bhutan. Then visit National museum of Bhutan, housed in an ancient Watchtower. Visit beautiful 7th century Kichu Lhakhang temple complex, one of the most sacred and revered places in Bhutan. In the afternoon, head short distance south to Bondey village and then take a short walk to visit a cliff-side temple complex of Dzongdrakha. Then visit local village and farm houses and return to your hotel.
Days 3 & 4: Fly to Jakar, Bumthang
Transfer to the airport in time for your early morning flight to Jakar, Bumthang. Upon arrival, meet and transfer to the hotel.
Bumthang is justifiably regarded as the cultural heartland of the kingdom with its many temples, holy sites, languages and traditions. We spend nearly two full days in and around Jakar visiting its monuments and cultural sights. Most places can be covered by drive but some places are easier and more interesting by walk. Among others, visit Kurjey Temple complex, the 7th century Jampay Lhakhang temple, Chakar Temple and Tamshing Monastery. Stop at the Swiss farm to sample local produce of cheese and beers. Visit local home, villages, and we may also have an opportunity to visit a school. We will also visit Kharchu Dratsang monastery, during their active evening debate or communion prayers. Visit Jakar Dzong and walk downhill through village and seeing some hidden shrines. See the giant water turned prayer wheels near Wangducholing Palace and if time permits, we can also visit Membartsho (‘burning lake’), a holy site where Pema Lingpa, one of Bhutan patron saint is said to have discovered religious treasures.Overnights in the hotel. You can also sample some local buckwheat dishes during your stay in Bumthang.
Alternatively, one full day can be used for excursion Tang Valley and Orgyencholing Manor Museum, which you can decide while you are in Bhutan.
Day 5: Drive to Punakha
From Jakar, start early for a long drive to Punakha (210KM/7hrs). From Jakar, cross Youtongla pass and arrive in Trongsa. Along the way, we stop briefly to see the Yathra weavers in Chumey. In Trongsa, visits Trongsa Dzong, one of the most aesthetic and magnificent works of traditional Bhutanese architecture. It is a rambling collection of buildings trailing down the ridge with succession of beautiful courtyards, overlooking Mangde Chu river. Continue our scenic drive, passing many small villages, waterfalls with spectacular landscape, and cross Black mountains at Pele La pass (3420m). Mt. Jumolhari and adjoining peaks can be seen from here on a clear day. Lunch will be served along the way. After the pass, the road descends, passing through ever-changing vegetation and arrives in warm subtropical valley of Punakha and Wangdue. Overnight in hotel.
Day 6: In Punakha & Wangdue
Punakha and Wangdue Phodrang are administrative centers of their respective district. Located close to each other and being in the same valley, they are often described together. Compared to Thimphu, Paro or valleys of Central Bhutan, Punakha-Wangdue valley is at a lower elevation of about 1250m above-sea-level. Therefore it enjoys subtropical climate with warm summers and pleasant winters. The valley boasts two crops a year, along with growth of oranges, bananas and other subtropical fruits.
Punakha was also the former winter capital of Bhutan, the tradition that is still followed by central monastic body. The head of the clergy of Bhutan with his entourage of monks spend the winter in Punakha Dzong and summer in Thimphu. Visit Punakha Dzong, located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (father) and Mo Chhu (mother) rivers. Drive short distance north of Punakha, through idyllic countryside, from where you can hike uphill through rice fields for about 40 minutes to beautiful Khamsum Yuelley Chorten, which stands out on a ridge with great view of Punakha valley. Later visit Wangduephodrang town and if time is available, you can take a short and easy walk to visit Chimi Lhakhang temple. Chimi Lhakhang is dedicated to popular saint Drukpa Kuenley, also popularly known as divine madman, famous because of the outrageous nature of his teachings which he administered in the most unexpected ways, often with strong sexual overtones and inclinations. Overnight in hotel.
Day 7: Drive to Thimphu
Our destination today is the Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, about 3.5hrs west across Dochu-La pass (3100m). This spectacular pass is heavily adorned with countless prayer flags and a series 108 chortens. Panoramic views of eastern Himalayan peaks, (most of Bhutan’s snowcapped peaks) along the border with Tibet, can be seen from here. We stop to enjoy the view over cup of tea or coffee at the cafeteria. After lunch at your hotel, begin a familiarization tour of Thimphu visiting Tashicho Dzong, a revamped fortress that is the main seat of Government and central monastic body. Stroll through the town area and down to vegetable market. During weekends (Fri-Sun), the vegetable market is more active. Depending on available time, we may visit or incorporate some of tomorrow’s sights. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 8: In Thimphu
Thimphu being the capital has number of sights to visit and depending on which may be of more interest to you, the Guide will cover them first and visit rest as per available time. The main sightseeing tour of Thimphu valley include visiting Memorial Chorten, Changangkha Lakhang, Takin (national animal) Sanctuary, Sangaygang View point, Zilukha Nunnery, Traditional Art School (Painting School), Indigenous Hospital, National Library and Handicraft workshops. Later you can visit Textile Museum, Handmade Paper factory, National Smiths, drive up the valley north, towards Dechencholing palace area for general view of the area. In the evening there will be time for stroll on your own. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 9: Paro (Taktsang Hike)
Drive to Paro (1.5hrs) and transfer directly to the trailhead for hike to famous Takstang (tiger’s nest) monastery, a quintessential Bhutan experience. Riding ponies can be arranged for uphill portion of the hike till the view point. The hike uphill to the first view point takes about 1hour and another hour to the monastery itself, but the whole excursion including the stops is expected to take all day. Return to Paro for final stroll around the town. Farwell dinner! Overnight in the hotel.
Day 10: Departure
Departure transfer to the airport in time for your flight.
Day 1: Arrive in Paro
Upon arrival, meet and transfer to the hotel. This afternoon begin the tour familiarizing with visit to local village, which gives the first glimpse of Bhutanese rural life. We also visit historical Rinphung Dzong, and also stroll around Paro.Overnight in hotel.
Day 2: Paro –Punakha/Wangdue
On the way to Punakha, we will get the first sight of Thimphu, which is an hour drive from Paro. From Thimphu, continue drive uphill to Dochula pass (3,100m), which provides spectacular panoramic views of the Bhutanese Peak. We spend some time exploring the area, its park and may be even walk for a bit. In the afternoon, visit Ewakha village and take a short walk to visit Chimi Lhakhang. Later in the evening, visit impressive Punakha Dzong at the confluence of Pho & Mo Chu rivers. Punakha and Wangdue are located at about 1400m in warm sub-tropical valley, alongside Punatsangchu river. Overnight in hotel or (option to stay family run Guest House)
Day 3: In Punakha & Wangdue
Drive up the hilly road to explore Talo village and Nobgang village, the home of the Queen mothers of Bhutan. We will have an opportunity to visit one or two homes, enjoy a tea with them, see their vegetable and flower garden and learn about their daily living. Then return to the valley and visit Richengang village near Wangdue.
Overnight in hotel or (option to stay family run Guest House).
Day 4: Punakha – Thimphu
After early breakfast, drive back across Dochula pass, to Thimphu. Rest of the afternoon is for touring the capital, where we visit among others, Folk Heritage Museum, Textile Academy, the great Tashicho Dzong, Colorful Farmer’s Market and Changlimithang ground for opportunity to see an Archery in progress.
Overnight in hotel (Option to stay in a home-stay Guest House).
Day 5: Thimphu – Haa Valley
In the morning, after briefly touring Thimphu, drive through one of the least traffic road, and beautiful landscapes to Haa Valley. Along the way, we will make stops in several villages. After our arrival in Haa, we will visit Chebri village and drive up the dirt road to Tachu Goempa village. Your accommodation in Hatoey village is in a traditional Farm house converted to a modern lodge. Tonight, you will be provided traditional hot stone bath, and you try Ara, a local Bhutanese Liquor as a part of this Bhutanese experience. Overnight in lodge.
Day 6: In Haa Valley
Full day in Haa, to explore local villages on foot, visit their homes and meet the families. Today, you will also try some Haap dishes. Overnight in lodge.
Day 7: Haa – Paro
On the way to Paro, stop at Chele la pass, the highest motor-able road in Bhutan. Just below the pass, visit secluded Kila gompa nunnery, a cluster of cliff-hanging homes for nuns. Upon arrival in Paro, the rest of the afternoon is for visiting local villages in Paro. Overnight in hotel
Day 8: In Paro – Hike to Takstang
Our Bhutan Village tour culminates with the hike to famous Taktsang (Tiger’s nest) monastery.Options are available for hiring riding pony/mules till the view-point.Upon return, freshen up at the hotel and visit the town area, for a final stroll and a farewell dinner. Overnight in Hotel.
Day 9: Departure
On time transfer to the airport, in time for departure flight out of Paro.

DAY TO DAY ITINERARY :
Day 1. Arrive and stay in Paro (2200 m)
Upon arrival transfer to hotel. Later, visit landmark attractions – Rinpung Dzong, National museum. After, set the tone for birding with visit to the agricultural channel and light vegetation in nearby villages to interact with locales, learn about birds and its significance in social and religious context, village life and lookout for birds. Most likely birds to be seen are Ibis bills, fire capped Tits, Spotted Laughing Thrush, Brown Dipper etc. Overnight in Hotels.
Day 2. Paro to Punakha: (1330 m/3 hours drive)
Drive east to subtropical valley of Punakha across Docula Pass (3150 m). Stop briefly to relish the landscapes and view of mountains peaks, we will examine the surrounding thoroughly on return. After, descend but we will stop below the pass and scan the botanical garden -an ideal rendezvous point for birds among others such as Besra, Eurasian Jay. Punakha harbour long Mo Chhu river channel that encloses broad leaves vegetation, agricultural lands and quiet neighbourhood – one of prominent birding arena in western Bhutan. Following the old trail, we’ll start examining the Mo chhu riverbank meticulously past beautiful Punakha Dzong, which we will visit later, scanning for species of ducks, herons and waterfowls. Critically endangered White Bellied Heron are seen frequently. Other birds such as Magpie Robin, Green Magpie, Osprey, River Lapwing, Ruddy Shelduck, Eurasian Wigeon. Overnight in hotel/ traditional Farm house/ Deluxe camping on river bank.
Day 3. In Punakha (Drive into Tashithang and beyond for birding)
Drive north of Punakha valley into the warm broadleaves forest reserve of Tashitang – bedrock of birding in western Bhutan. The favourable warm climates and rich reserve of forests provide ideal conditions for varied species of avifauna to thrive. In winter myriad migrants from alpine region can be seen in these forest. We’ll scan the area minutely looking for species of passerine, and a whole lot of species waits to be discovered such as Collared Owlet, Barred Cuckoo-dove, White-browed Shrike-babbler, Large Niltava,We’ll also search for a variety of skulkers, including Spotted Elachura and Pygmy Wren-babbler. Overnight in hotel/Traditional Farm House/ Deluxe camping in river bank.
Note:Early morning hour is the prime time for birding.
Day 4. Punakha to Gangtey, Phobjikha (3000 m/ drive – 3+ hrs) – start early and birding
Drive to Gangtey, however along the way we‘ll make series of stops where we’ll venture into agricultural fringe and river channel. Sighting of Pallas’s eagle are frequently reported. Others birds are Flycatcher, wedge Tailed green Pigeon are common. We will also stop at large swathe of productive forest reserve prior to Phobjika, upon closer exploration we can find myriad avifauna such scarlet Finch, Black Drongo, Chestnut bellied Nuthatch, Slaty backed Forktail, Gorgeted Flycatcher, White throated Laughing thrust, Eurasian Jay, Wedge Tailed Green Pigeon, Mountain Imperial Pigeon, Verditer Flycatcher, etc.Upon arrival in Phobjika, if it falls between Oct to March, we can see a large colony of endangered Black Neck Crane in vast meadows. Overnight in Hotel.
Day 5. Phobjikha – Trongsa (2180 m/ 3 hours approx )
Leaving Trongsa, we’ll stop at Pela La pass. We will spend the whole morning hours looking for alpine avian delights like Satyr Tagopan, Blood Pheasant and the beautiful Himalayan Monal. Three miles below the pass, the stand of bamboo up shoots attracts many birds. The specialties of the area are Great and Brown Parrot bills and Golden-breasted Fulvetta, surely one of the world’s most attractive passerines. Along the way stop and visit Chendebji Stupa – eighteen century Swambhunath Stupa style. Overnight hotel in Trongsa.
Day 6. Trongsa to Tingtibi (580 m/ 4hours)– Camp
Shemgang / Tingbitti is considered as best sub tropical birding region in Bhutan. Morning birding to Yeshi Zam, the focus will be mainly to spot Yellow- Rumped honey guide. This large forested area is also home to endangered Golden Langur. Although its likely to see beautiful nuthatch in lower Shemgang road, but the most people will hardly get enough of it. So we will search for more in campsite vicinity, which is amidst the beautiful forest, though at slightly lower altitude that we visited. Along with it, there are many birds you will encountered are yellow-throated martin, giant squirrel Rufous-necked hornbill, Blue throated bee-eater, Maroon Oriole, Racket tailed Drongo, Red headed Trogon, sultan tit, Grey Nightjar, Hill Prinia, Asian Emerald Cuckoo, Great hornbill, Partridge, Violet Cuckoo, Pin-tailed Green Pigeon, , and Cutia. Rufous-faced Warbler is also quite common, and we stand a chance of encountering the rare White-bellied Heron and possibly Collared Treepie etc. Overnight at Camp/Deluxe camp..
Day 7. Tingtibi – Gonphu – Gelephu (305 m/4 hrs)
We will do early morning birding in Tingtibi area. After, drive for approx. 2 hours to Gonphu. Birding extensively in Gongphu area. The birds likely to be seen are Green Magpie, Laughing Thrushes,Spider hunter, Samatar Babblers, Wren Babbler. Later we descend into lowland Gelphu, however, enroute we stop at lush forest of Tama la. There is report of sighting of rare blue Fronted Robin. In Gelephu, you will find completely different set of birds, typical of the plains of India such as Jungle fowl, White Throated Kingfisher,Indian Peafowl; Green Imperial-Pigeon; Brown Boo books, Asian Barred-Owlets, Chestnut-headed Bee-eaters; colorful Indian Rollers, both Wreathed and Oriental Pied hornbills; a Greater Flame back Greater Yellow nape, Ashy Wood swallows, comical Greater Racket-tailed Drongo. Overnight in Camp/ Deluxe camping nearby hot spring – Allegedly, believed to have therapeutic benefits.
Day 8. Gelephu, Tshirang, Wangdue-Dochula pass.(3150 m/6 hours)
Today is the longest drive, it takes around 6 hours, however we will make regular stops along the ways. As there are a few lush green forests with prime birding spots. Once in Dochula pass, explore the beautiful surrounding and spectacular view of far off eastern Himalayan mountain peaks on a clear day, so is the spectacular sunset from the pass (3150 m). Overnight in Hotel in Docula Pass.
Day 9. Dochula to Thimphu.
Early morning birding around the Docula pass. The forest of conifers, firs, spruce are an ideal habitat for the alpine avain such as resplendent Monals, near mythical Stayr Tropan and prize conquest will be spotting Ward Trogopan. Eec. Also we will watch glorious sun rise. After breakfast, we will drive for Thimphu (45 mins) and head past town to Cheri, Doderma, north of Thimphu valley. Red billed Coughed is frequently seen along the way. Birding in temperate forest of conifers, spruce and you may see Ibis bill, Common sandpiper, Crested-pie kingfisher, Redrumped swallow, Long-tailed minivet, Grey wagtail, Yellow-billed blue Magpie, Spotted nutcracker, White-bellied yuhina, Red-billed chough, Black-browed tit, Upland pipit Later drive back to town and visit prominent attraction like Tashichho Dzong, Gaint Buddha statues, Takin reserve, Painting School, Centennial weekend market, Archery in Changlimithang ground. etc.
Overnight in hotel.
Day 10. Thimphu-Paro (hike to Taktsang)
Drive to Paro and Transfer to trail head of Taksang monastery (1hr.30 mins). If early we can see birds commonly found in Paro like Ibis bills, laughing thrushes, brwon dipper etc.Chances to sight birds plummet significantly as the days set in as the crowd triggers flight reaction of birds.For the hike portion it takes around more than 2 hours. Return to town, visit Rinpung Dzong and National Museum. Stroll in town Farewell Dinner.

Day 11. Depart
Transfer to Airport on time for your outward journey.

DAY TO DAY ITINERARY :
Day 1: Arrive in Paro.
Arrive by flight into Paro. Upon arrival you are met by Bhutanese Guide and driver and transferred to the hotel. Depending on your arrival time, we should be able to cover some sightseeing such as the National Museum, Rinphung Dzong and have time to stroll in the charming small town of Paro. Day 2 & 3: Punakha & Wangdue Valley.
Three-four hours journey to Wangdue/Punakha valley via 10,000ft Dochula pass. From the pass you can see panorama view of snow capped peaks of eastern Himalayan range (weather permitting). We descend through changing vegetations and landscape into semi-tropical Punakha valley. During our stay visit the impressive Punakha Dzong fortress located at the confluence of Pho and Mo Chu Rivers. We’ll take an easy walk in the valley, visit some of its monasteries, villages, take short drives and enjoy this idyllic countryside dotted with farm houses and terraced hillsides. Day 4 & 5: Jakar (Bumthang).
We have a long drive (7hrs) traversing Pele la pass into Mangde/Trongsa region and then across Youtongla pass to arrive in Bumthang district. We will make occasional stops along the way to ease the long journey. We have a full day to explore by easy walks and short drives. Among others visit Kurjey Temple complex, the 7th century Jampay Lhakhang and Tamshing Lhakhang monastery. We also have visit Jakar Dzong, local village, and visit Kharchu Dratsang monastery, during their active evening debate or communion prayers. You can also sample some local buckwheat dishes during your stay in Bumthang. Overnight hotel in Jakar.
Day 6: Jakar – Trongsa.
Retrace short drive back to Trongsa. En-route, stop in Bumthang’s chumey valley, where we check-out Yathra weavers. Then crossing Youtongla pass, descend into Trongsa. Visit Trongsa’s dzong. Set above the dzong is the Ta Dzong, the watchtower, a lovely old building which has been recently renovated to houses an excellent museum with several floors of royal memorabilia and sacred artifacts. The views from the roof are well worth the climb. In the evening stroll around the town.

Day 7: Gangtey, Phobjikha Valley.
Our journey brings us back to Pele la pass, passing through several small towns and alpine settlements, with spectacular views. After short decent, our road makes a diversion off the main high-way to Gangtey. Famous as a main wintering ground for Black Necked Cranes, which arrive here late October and stay until early spring before heading back to their breeding grounds in Tibet and Siberia. Visit ancient Gangtey Gompa, one of the oldest Nyingma monastery, located atop the hill. Then walk along the nature trail, a footpath encircling the winter roosting grounds of the cranes. Overnight hotel in Gangtey. (Total 4-5hrs drive)
Day 8: Gangtey – Thimphu.
Backtracking our drive back through ever changing vegetations to Punakha and Wangdue valley. From Punakha, climb up to Dochula pass, for one more opportunity to take in a magnificent mountain vista. Enjoy the views over cuppa near the pass in cafeteria. This evening, we should have sometime available to visit great Tashicho Dzong and stroll along the main street of the capital. Overnight hotel in Thimphu. (Total 6+hrs drive).
Day 9: In Thimphu.
Thimphu is an attractive valley location and is relatively small for a capital city that has grown greatly in recent years. We have a full day to tour and visit the capital of Bhutan as per interests. Drive up to giant Buddha statue, visit Memorial Chorten, Takin Preserve, Zilukha nunnery, Traditional Art School, Hospital for traditional medicine, National Library, Textile Academy and Museum, Changlimithang ground where you may see Archery, Centennial farmers’ market, which is more vibrant over the weekend (Fri-Sun) or you can spend half day hiking to Cheri or Tango Monastery north of Thimphu. Day 10: Thimphu – Paro.
Today is another easy day. We will cover any remainder sightseeing of Thimphu in the first half of the morning and then drive to Paro, which takes only about an hour. Along the way, we will stop to visit a nunnery in Sitsina village and depending on your interest, we can also stop to walk across the river and visit Tamchoe Lhakhang temple. Upon arrival in Paro, visit Dzongdrakha, a group of temples and farmhouses located along the cave. Then in afternoon visit beautiful Kichu Lhakhang, and Dungtse temple, followed by visit to local village, including a visit to local farm house. Overnight hotel in Paro
Day 11: Paro (Hike to Takstang).
After breakfast, head north of the town (1/2 hr) to the trail head for hike uphill to the iconic Taktsang (tiger’s nest) monastery, perched some 600m/2,000ft up on a cliff overlooking the valley. It is said to be where the legendary Guru Padma Sambhava, flew from Tibet on the back of a tigeress to subdue the demons, who were opposing the spread of Buddhism in Bhutan. Descend the same way back, meet the vehicle and transfer to the hotel. After freshen up, you may wish to take one more visit in the town, before your farewell dinner.
Note: For those looking to take up more challenging hike, one can climb up further uphill to visit Zangdopelri temple and Ugyentsemo monastery.
Day 12: Departure.
Transfer to the airport in time for your departure flight.

Online Regional Permit System
In order to streamline and facilitate smooth visitation by tourists from Bangladesh, India and Maldives, the Department of Immigration, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs and the Tourism Council of Bhutan have launched the Online Permit System. The system facilitates the Online processing of permits for regional tourists through registered Bhutanese tour operators like Wind Horse Tours. The facility is offered as an optional channel to process permits for visitors from the region and is applicable for entry from Paro and Phuentsholing. Visitors who use this facility will be able to obtain their permit clearances and route permits ahead of their arrival in Bhutan similar to international tourists. You are required to send the photo-page of your passport to your tour operator who will then apply for your e-permit.
Visa (Foreign Nationals)
All other tourists must obtain a visa clearance prior the travel to Bhutan. Visas are processed through an Online system by licensed Bhutanese tour operator like GOVMENT OF BHUTAN directly or through a foreign travel agent. You are required to send the photo-page of your passport to your tour operator who will then apply for your visa. The visa will be processed by the Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) once the full payment of your holiday (including a USD $40 visa fee) has been wire transferred and received in the TCB bank account. Once received, the visa clearance will be processed within 72 working hours.At your point of entry you will be required to show your visa clearance letter, the visa will then be stamped into your passport.
DAY TO DAY ITINERARY :
Day 1: Arrive in Paro
Arrive by flight into Paro.Upon arrival at the airport, clear immigration & Customs. Meet your Bhutanese Guide and driver outside the terminal, and after introduction, transfer to your hotel.
This afternoon or evening as per your arrival time, transfer short distance to Rinphung Dzong, built in early 17th century. Like most dzongs, Rinphung Dzong houses both the monastic body and district government offices, including the local courts. Rinpung Dzong (meaning fortress on a heap of Jewels) is one of the finest example of Bhutanese architecture you’ll see. The massive buttressed walls tower over the town and are visible throughout the valley. Scenes from Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1995 film Little Buddha were filmed here. After visiting the Dzong, walk downhill, across a traditional wooden covered bridge that spans the Paro Chhu River, past Ugyen Pelri Palace and arrive in town area. Stroll around the charming small town of Paro, lined with colorfully painted wooden shop fronts and restaurants. As per available and interests, our guide will plan other visits accordingly. Day 2: Paro Valley
In the morning, we visit Dumtse Lhakhang temple built in 1433 by the iron bridge builder Thangtong Gyalpo. It is shaped like a chorten (stupa) with three floors and the murals inside are said to be some of the finest in Bhutan. Then visit National museum of Bhutan, housed in an ancient Watchtower. Visit beautiful 7th century Kichu Lhakhang temple complex, one of the most sacred and revered places in Bhutan. In the afternoon, head short distance south to Bondey village and then take a short walk to visit a cliff-side temple complex of Dzongdrakha. Then visit local village and farm houses and return to your hotel.
Days 3 & 4: Fly to Jakar, Bumthang
Transfer to the airport in time for your early morning flight to Jakar, Bumthang. Upon arrival, meet and transfer to the hotel.
Bumthang is justifiably regarded as the cultural heartland of the kingdom with its many temples, holy sites, languages and traditions. We spend nearly two full days in and around Jakar visiting its monuments and cultural sights. Most places can be covered by drive but some places are easier and more interesting by walk. Among others, visit Kurjey Temple complex, the 7th century Jampay Lhakhang temple, Chakar Temple and Tamshing Monastery. Stop at the Swiss farm to sample local produce of cheese and beers. Visit local home, villages, and we may also have an opportunity to visit a school. We will also visit Kharchu Dratsang monastery, during their active evening debate or communion prayers. Visit Jakar Dzong and walk downhill through village and seeing some hidden shrines. See the giant water turned prayer wheels near Wangducholing Palace and if time permits, we can also visit Membartsho (‘burning lake’), a holy site where Pema Lingpa, one of Bhutan patron saint is said to have discovered religious treasures.Overnights in the hotel. You can also sample some local buckwheat dishes during your stay in Bumthang.
Alternatively, one full day can be used for excursion Tang Valley and Orgyencholing Manor Museum, which you can decide while you are in Bhutan.
Day 5: Drive to Punakha
From Jakar, start early for a long drive to Punakha (210KM/7hrs). From Jakar, cross Youtongla pass and arrive in Trongsa. Along the way, we stop briefly to see the Yathra weavers in Chumey. In Trongsa, visits Trongsa Dzong, one of the most aesthetic and magnificent works of traditional Bhutanese architecture. It is a rambling collection of buildings trailing down the ridge with succession of beautiful courtyards, overlooking Mangde Chu river. Continue our scenic drive, passing many small villages, waterfalls with spectacular landscape, and cross Black mountains at Pele La pass (3420m). Mt. Jumolhari and adjoining peaks can be seen from here on a clear day. Lunch will be served along the way. After the pass, the road descends, passing through ever-changing vegetation and arrives in warm subtropical valley of Punakha and Wangdue. Overnight in hotel.
Day 6: In Punakha & Wangdue
Punakha and Wangdue Phodrang are administrative centers of their respective district. Located close to each other and being in the same valley, they are often described together. Compared to Thimphu, Paro or valleys of Central Bhutan, Punakha-Wangdue valley is at a lower elevation of about 1250m above-sea-level. Therefore it enjoys subtropical climate with warm summers and pleasant winters. The valley boasts two crops a year, along with growth of oranges, bananas and other subtropical fruits.
Punakha was also the former winter capital of Bhutan, the tradition that is still followed by central monastic body. The head of the clergy of Bhutan with his entourage of monks spend the winter in Punakha Dzong and summer in Thimphu. Visit Punakha Dzong, located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (father) and Mo Chhu (mother) rivers. Drive short distance north of Punakha, through idyllic countryside, from where you can hike uphill through rice fields for about 40 minutes to beautiful Khamsum Yuelley Chorten, which stands out on a ridge with great view of Punakha valley. Later visit Wangduephodrang town and if time is available, you can take a short and easy walk to visit Chimi Lhakhang temple. Chimi Lhakhang is dedicated to popular saint Drukpa Kuenley, also popularly known as divine madman, famous because of the outrageous nature of his teachings which he administered in the most unexpected ways, often with strong sexual overtones and inclinations. Overnight in hotel.
Day 7: Drive to Thimphu
Our destination today is the Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, about 3.5hrs west across Dochu-La pass (3100m). This spectacular pass is heavily adorned with countless prayer flags and a series 108 chortens. Panoramic views of eastern Himalayan peaks, (most of Bhutan’s snowcapped peaks) along the border with Tibet, can be seen from here. We stop to enjoy the view over cup of tea or coffee at the cafeteria. After lunch at your hotel, begin a familiarization tour of Thimphu visiting Tashicho Dzong, a revamped fortress that is the main seat of Government and central monastic body. Stroll through the town area and down to vegetable market. During weekends (Fri-Sun), the vegetable market is more active. Depending on available time, we may visit or incorporate some of tomorrow’s sights. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 8: In Thimphu
Thimphu being the capital has number of sights to visit and depending on which may be of more interest to you, the Guide will cover them first and visit rest as per available time. The main sightseeing tour of Thimphu valley include visiting Memorial Chorten, Changangkha Lakhang, Takin (national animal) Sanctuary, Sangaygang View point, Zilukha Nunnery, Traditional Art School (Painting School), Indigenous Hospital, National Library and Handicraft workshops. Later you can visit Textile Museum, Handmade Paper factory, National Smiths, drive up the valley north, towards Dechencholing palace area for general view of the area. In the evening there will be time for stroll on your own. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 9: Paro (Taktsang Hike)
Drive to Paro (1.5hrs) and transfer directly to the trailhead for hike to famous Takstang (tiger’s nest) monastery, a quintessential Bhutan experience. Riding ponies can be arranged for uphill portion of the hike till the view point. The hike uphill to the first view point takes about 1hour and another hour to the monastery itself, but the whole excursion including the stops is expected to take all day. Return to Paro for final stroll around the town. Farwell dinner! Overnight in the hotel.
Day 10: Departure
Departure transfer to the airport in time for your flight.

Day 1: Arrive in Paro
Upon arrival, meet and transfer to the hotel. This afternoon begin the tour familiarizing with visit to local village, which gives the first glimpse of Bhutanese rural life. We also visit historical Rinphung Dzong, and also stroll around Paro.Overnight in hotel.
Day 2: Paro –Punakha/Wangdue
On the way to Punakha, we will get the first sight of Thimphu, which is an hour drive from Paro. From Thimphu, continue drive uphill to Dochula pass (3,100m), which provides spectacular panoramic views of the Bhutanese Peak. We spend some time exploring the area, its park and may be even walk for a bit. In the afternoon, visit Ewakha village and take a short walk to visit Chimi Lhakhang. Later in the evening, visit impressive Punakha Dzong at the confluence of Pho & Mo Chu rivers. Punakha and Wangdue are located at about 1400m in warm sub-tropical valley, alongside Punatsangchu river. Overnight in hotel or (option to stay family run Guest House)
Day 3: In Punakha & Wangdue
Drive up the hilly road to explore Talo village and Nobgang village, the home of the Queen mothers of Bhutan. We will have an opportunity to visit one or two homes, enjoy a tea with them, see their vegetable and flower garden and learn about their daily living. Then return to the valley and visit Richengang village near Wangdue.

Day 4: Punakha – Thimphu
After early breakfast, drive back across Dochula pass, to Thimphu. Rest of the afternoon is for touring the capital, where we visit among others, Folk Heritage Museum, Textile Academy, the great Tashicho Dzong, Colorful Farmer’s Market and Changlimithang ground for opportunity to see an Archery in progress.
Overnight in hotel (Option to stay in a home-stay Guest House).
Day 5: Thimphu – Haa Valley
In the morning, after briefly touring Thimphu, drive through one of the least traffic road, and beautiful landscapes to Haa Valley. Along the way, we will make stops in several villages. After our arrival in Haa, we will visit Chebri village and drive up the dirt road to Tachu Goempa village. Your accommodation in Hatoey village is in a traditional Farm house converted to a modern lodge. Tonight, you will be provided traditional hot stone bath, and you try Ara, a local Bhutanese Liquor as a part of this Bhutanese experience. Overnight in lodge.
Day 6: In Haa Valley
Full day in Haa, to explore local villages on foot, visit their homes and meet the families. Today, you will also try some Haap dishes. Overnight in lodge.
Day 7: Haa – Paro
On the way to Paro, stop at Chele la pass, the highest motor-able road in Bhutan. Just below the pass, visit secluded Kila gompa nunnery, a cluster of cliff-hanging homes for nuns. Upon arrival in Paro, the rest of the afternoon is for visiting local villages in Paro. Overnight in hotel
Day 8: In Paro – Hike to Takstang
Our Bhutan Village tour culminates with the hike to famous Taktsang (Tiger’s nest) monastery.Options are available for hiring riding pony/mules till the view-point.Upon return, freshen up at the hotel and visit the town area, for a final stroll and a farewell dinner. Overnight in Hotel.
Day 9: Departure
On time transfer to the airport, in time for departure flight out of Paro.
