Upon arrival visit Mahbodhi temple and various monasteries around it. Mahabodhi Temple: The temple stands in the east to the Bodhi Tree. Its architectural effect is superb. Its basement is 48 square feet and it rises in the form of a slender Pyramid till it reaches its neck, which is cylindrical in shape. The total height of the temple is 170 ft. and on the top of the temple are Chatras which symbolize sovereignty of religion. Four towers on its corners rise gracefully giving the holy structure a poise balance. This sacred edifice is like a grand banner unfurled by time to proclaim to the world the pious efforts of the Buddha to solve the knots of human miseries, to ascend above worldly problems and to attain transcendental peace through wisdom, good conduct and disciplined life. Temples And Monasteries – Around the big Mahabodhi Temple, there are a number of modern monasteries belonging to different countries. The monasteries give the area around the Mahabodhi temple a splendid atmosphere of peace and calm. The most magnificent of all is the Thai Temple which, with its splendid roof and aura, dominates the premises. Another important monastery is the Gelugpa Tibetan Monastery. Overnight in Bodhgaya
Day 11BODHGAYA : Morning after breakfast proceed for sightseeing visiting the below places. Sujata Village – The Village of Uruvella. After “coming down from the Mountains” (renouncing the deeply ascetic practices), Siddhartha Gotama was offered food by the young woman Sujata who mistook him for a tree spirit (Yaksha) whom she worshipped in hopes of obtaining a suitable husband. It is from Uruvella that Siddhartha advanced across the Nairanjana (modern Phalgu), immediately to the west, and on to Bodh Gaya Niranjan River – There is, however, one thing that sets this place apart from all others: here, under a Bodhi tree, prince Siddharta achieved enlightenment and became “the Buddha”. So, Bodhgaya is one of the holiest sites for Buddhists and there are monasteries from just about any Buddhist country. Very interesting to visit, – but exploring rural India is just as rewarding!. Then visit Gaya – Situated just 13 Km from Bodhgaya, Gaya is another highly sacred place for Hindus. You will find a slightly different scenes than Bodhgaya. Gaya is densely populated and full of noise and excitement. Hindus come here to offer oblation for salvation of their dead parents and forefathers in the huge and magnificent Vishnupad Temple. It is one of the most holy sites as in this place the stream of the Buddha’s teaching first flowed. At this place, Buddha encountered the five men who had been his companions of earlier austerities. On meeting the enlightened Buddha, all they saw was an ordinary man; they mocked his well-nourished appearance. “Here comes the mendicant Gautama,” they said, “who has turned away from asceticism. He is certainly not worth our respect.” When they reminded him of his former vows, the Buddha replied, “Austerities only confuse the mind. Evening we will head towards the Dasaswamedh Ghat (One of the banks of Ganges River. Close to Kashi Vishwanath Temple) to witness Ganga Aarti (Evening Prayer). The city is however in ruins due to the negligence of later rulers who had shifted their attention away from the place. Nevertheless, there are some old forts, stupas and sculptures that attract tourist attention, bearing the sign of an ancient civilized city. The city also finds important insertion in the travelogues of Fa-Hien, the Chinese traveller. He described this place as one of the best cities of that time which proves that the city was once the nerve of activities in India. The feel of standing in a city that is linked to a period as ancient as that of Mahabharata, is really fascinating. Later in time transfer to Varanasi to board train to Delhi Depart . Day 14 VARANASI – DELHI : Train .Early morning excursion to Kausambi (Approx. 50 kms one way).
Overnight in train.
Day 15 DEPART DELHI
Morning at leisure and later in time transfer to airport to airport to board flight back home.
